GORDON ROBERT CAIRNS It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon Robert Cairns, of Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, September 26, 2000, after a courageous battle with M.S.A. Gordie, as he was called, will be sadly missed by his wife Pat; sons, Mike (Trudy) and Glen (Kim) granddaughter Jordan, his pride and joy; brother Robert (Kathy) Olson of Powell River, BC; sister Lorna (Ted) Grant of Winnipeg, MB; mother-in-law Stella Mackie; brother-in-law Wayne (Denise) sister-in-law Anna (Colin) McDonald, all of Kenora, Ontario. The Wilsons, Pats family, step-daughters, Tammy (William), Patti (Dale) and family, Donna (Brent) and many nieces and nephews. Gordie was predeceased by his first wife Roberta; his father Robert; his mom Flora; his second mom Signe of Fort Francis, Ontario, and his father-in-law Earl of Kenora, Ontario. Gordie was born in Rainy River, Ontario, January 13, 1941, he was 59 years of age. Gord enjoyed the many years of being a radio D.J. in Kenora, Thunder Bay, Calgary, Alberta, and Winnipeg, MB. He was a long-time member of the Pequonga Lodge #414 in Kenora, Ontario. He retired from the Federal Government in 1995 after many years. Prior to his illness, Gordie was a proud and active member of the Charleswood Legion #100 and spent many happy times in the company of fellow members. He had many good times curling and golfing, also being an active member on the executive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation of Canada, 204 - 825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB or the M.S. Society of Canada, 141 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held at the Charleswood Legion, located on Roblin Boulevard, on Saturday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. Thank Yous go out to Dr. Andrew Jowett for his care and compassion and to the staff at Charleswood Medical Centre for all their support. To Chapel Lawn for taking care of all the arrangements, to Pastor George Davidson for his kind words, Cliff Tessier for the eulogy, Herman Kehler for his kind words, and to the legion family for all their kindness and support and the luncheon served after. A private family interment to follow at a later date at Lake of the Wood Cemetery in Kenora, Ontario. "All who knew him Were truly blessed. Now the angels sing Him, to his rest."
