PAUL STANLEY AUGUST Peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at the Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota, Manitoba, with his family by his side, Paul Stanley August passed away at the age of 81 years. Paul was a well loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Paul was born in Winnipeg on April 25, 1919. He grew up in Brandon, Manitoba. He left high school and joined the Royal Bank from which he retired in 1979 with 42 years of service. During the war he served in the Navy as an ASDIC operator, crossing the Atlantic many times escorting convoys. His career in the Royal Bank took him all over Manitoba and northern Ontario. In Lac Du Bonnet he met and married Phyllis Park. Subsequent moves took them and their children to Winnipeg, Baldur, and Hamiota where they finally retired. Paul was an active participant in all the communities he lived in. He held office in the Legion, Curling Club, Golf Club and Chamber of Commerce. He volunteered as an ambulance driver and a Meals on Wheels delivery person. In 1935 he participated, on two separate occasions, in the rescue of people from drowning in the Assiniboine River near Brandon. He was an active member of the Anglican Church. Paul is survived by his wife Phyllis; his children, Gerald (Ruth) of Winnipeg, David (Donna) of Brandon, Arlene (Rick) Mourant of Winkler; grandchildren, Pamela, Ian, Paul, Martine, Derek and Colleen; great grand-daughter Iesha. He also leaves to mourn, his sister Helen Bradshaw of Hamilton, Ontario and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Paul was predeceased by his mother Christina; father Paul; sister Beatrice; brothers Howard and John. Paul was a very competent, friendly, caring, compassionate man whose sense of humour and generous spirit will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2, in the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Curtis officiating. Service to commence at 2:00 p.m. with interment following in the Hamiota Cemetery. Lunch, provided by the Hamiota Legion Auxilliary will follow in Chumah Hall, Hamiota United Church.
