NICHOLAS (NIEL) SLYKERMAN
Date of Passing: Sep 26, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICHOLAS (NIEL) SLYKERMAN Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, Niel died at the age of 64 years. Remaining to forever cherish his memory and celebrate his life are his beloved wife Maria, of 39 years of marriage; son Cory and daughters, Joan Haakman (Perry), Carol and Lisa; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Tessa, Marie and Emily; eight brothers and a sister (along with their families) in the Netherlands and numerous family and friends in Canada. Niels loss will be deeply felt in the pro-life movement in Canada. Shy and reserved by nature, he felt so strongly about his belief in the family and his belief in life from conception until its natural end that he often found himself speaking publicly and writing in favour of life. Niel was an active parishioner of St. Vital Roman Catholic Church and during the last four years acted as President of Campaign Life Coalition in Manitoba. The friends Niel made, particularly within his parish and the pro-life movement, provided an awesome measure of palliative care during his illness, for which his family is truly grateful. His family also wishes to thank in particular Dr. Richard Blouw and Dr. Larry Rados. Prayers will be said on Monday evening, October 2 at 8:00 p.m., in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m., also in the Church with Rev. Dr. Patrick Morand presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, 826 Crescent Dr., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a Mass may be requested for the reposed soul of Niel, or donations may be made to Campaign Life Coalition or the Prolife Graduation Scholarship at St. Maurice School. "Go back to God, O faithful soul, To God the Father, who created you, God the Son who redeemed you, And God the Holy Spirit, Who sanctified you." WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
