FREDA MAUD MONDOR (nee Leadbeater) Peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 while in Toronto, Ontario, our beloved mother and grand-mother passed away at the age of 80. Mom is survived by her three children and their families, Linda (Brian Baxter) and their children, Karen, Steven, David and Matthew of Winnipeg; Ken (Kathie) and their children, Blair and Craig of Toronto; and Dan (Geraldine) and their children, Timothy and Erica of Atlanta, GA; and her stepdaughter Wendy (Bob Smith) and their children, Amanda and Glenn of Winnipeg. Freda is also survived by three brothers, Albert, Harvey and Cyril Leadbeater and two sisters, Doris Sanders and Gladys McDonald. Freda was predeceased by her first husband Antoine (Tony) Mondor in June 1976, and her second husband John Askew in September 1999. Freda was born near Crystal City, Manitoba on September 10, 1920, the daughter of James and Mary Leadbeater and was raised on the family farm. Freda lived in Truro, Nova Scotia and Estevan, Saskatchewan before returning to Winnipeg in 1955 to live in her St. Vital home. Freda was a devoted member of Regents Park United Church for the past forty-four years. She cherished her home and especially loved tending her garden and flowers. Freda led a very active life and had many dear friends and neighbours whose lives she touched deeply. Freda was truly a wonderful person, who loved life and hers is an example for all of us. Her warmth, giving nature, inner strength, faith and especially her courage during hard times will always be with us. Our most recent memory was her 80th birthday celebration at Regents Park, where over 120 of her friends and family attended. In her words it was "the most wonderful birthday party ever". We are so happy to have given her this day of joy and love as our last gift. Ive seen and met angels wearing the disguise of ordinary people leading ordinary lives. Filled with love, compassion, forgiveness and unselfishness. Friends may call for visitation on Sunday, October 1, between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. in Regents Park United Church, 613 St. Marys Road. Interment will follow in St. Vital Cemetery. Flowers are graciously accepted and may be delivered to Thomson Funeral Chapels for the visitation, or if friends and family so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Mom With grace and dignity you taught us. With grace and dignity you left us. With grace and dignity you will always be with us. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
