AUDREY HOOK Audrey Hook (nee Davis) passed away on Friday, September 29, 2000 at home in Winnipeg. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Bob, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) her sons, Robert and wife Jane, William and wife Diane, Gordon and wife Ann, David and wife Margaret; granddaughter Alexis and grandsons, Patrick, Christopher, Kyle, Timothy, Shaun and Ryan. Audrey was predeceased by her mother and father, Ethel and Henry Davis; and by her brother, Flying Officer Robert Davis who died while serving with the RCAF during the Second World War. In her youth, Audrey danced with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and, throughout her life, encouraged and nutured a love of music in her children and grandchildren. Also during the Second World War she formed, trained and led a dance and entertainment group which toured Commonwealth Air Training Bases throughout Manitoba and entertained the troops. Audrey was always sensitive to others needs and willing to serve the numerous communities in which she lived. She was an active member of the Canadian Red Cross in the 1940s and of St. John Ambulance as an instructor in first aid and CPR in the 1970s and 1980s for which she was invested by Governor General Jeanne Sauve as a Serving Sister of the Order. She also served with the American Red Cross meeting wounded American Servicemen returning from the Vietnam War when she lived in Montgomery, Alabama in 1967/68 while Bob attended the United States Air Force Air War College. She was awarded the American Red Cross Award for 500 hours of service which she carried out in 11 months. While in Montgomery she volunteered as a secretary for a staff doctor at the Base Hospital. She was also an active member of the United States Navy Officers Wives Club in Norfolk, Virginia for a number of years in the early 1970s. When she lived in Greenwood, NS in the 1960s, she was president of the Air Force Wives Club which ran the Opportunity Shop in support of less fortunate individuals. For over 30 years Audrey travelled with Bob and her sons throughout Canada, Germany, France and the United States, finally returning home to Winnipeg for good in 1973. Above all else, she cherished her family, who knows that she will remain eternally devoted to them, as they will to her memory. Audrey was always the eternal mother and she adopted several, young and old, as her own: Chris Salstrom, an "adopted" daughter, Princess Kymm and Amanda Johnston as "adopted" granddaughters; Jane Bests daughter Christie and her children, Cory and Kryslynn. Audrey was an active member of St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Dr. in Winnipeg, where a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2J 1C2 She will be missed and remembered by all whose lives she touched, and her family will always love her.
