Date of Passing: Sep 26, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR VINCENT RAMPTON After a long and full life, Art Rampton, 80, passed away at Dauphin General Hospital on September 26. Art was known for his dedication to his family, his farm and the community. He started his farm after returning from five years service overseas during the Second World War, for which he was mentioned in many dispatches. He then built up what became one of the top-producing Guernsey dairy herds in Canada, and honed his entrepreneurial skills at the familys dairy plant and milk store. He was named Mr. Manitoba Farmer in 1970. Art was a champion of free enterprise, but also cared deeply for fellow farmers and the community. He became involved with the Manitoba Milk Producers marketing board in 1975 and spent a decade as its chairman in Winnipeg. In 1986, Art became chairman of the Dairy Bureau of Canada. Art treasured his years as an advocate for dairy farmers. For his accomplishments, the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame named Art to its roll of honour in 1996. When he retired, he turned his attention to his home town and was a tireless fundraiser for community groups. Most of all, Art delighted in his family and their accomplishments. He is survived by Nada (Wilkinson), with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage; children, Vern and Joyce of Ottawa, Ont., Peter and Liz of Ladysmith, B.C., Marion and Mike Pernarowski of Dauphin and Bruce and Terri of Dauphin and sister-in-law Florence Rampton of Vancouver. He will be sadly missed by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service to honour Arts life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, at the Dauphin United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arts memory may be made to The Dauphin and District Community Foundation.
