EDITH MARION WICKSTROM (nee GUNDERSON) Peacefully, with her family at her side, on September 30, 2000, Edith Wickstrom passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, in her 73rd year, after a short, defiant battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years Roy and her children: Marvin (Leslie) of Calgary; Mavis Sayer (Fred Pebbles) Winnipeg; Maureen (Ken Dreffs) Winnipeg; and Maria Arsenault (Mike) Moncton; Grandchildren Kara, Lisa, Richard, Abbie-Lee, Joel; Sisters Viola Specht (Denver, CO) Fern Axelson (Denver, CO) Yvonne Carey (Sarnia, ON) and brother Darwin Gunderson (Sydney, BC) many nephews, nieces, cousins and her Aunts Edith Daly (Nanamio, BC) Dell Winstanley (Estevan, SK) and Vera Winstanley (Nanamio, BC). She was predeceased by her parents, George Gunderson and Wilhelmina Winstanley; and her brothers Magnus and Harold (Gunner). Edith was born April 10, 1928 at Estevan, Saskatchewan where she was raised on the family farm. After working at St. Josephs Hospital, she moved to Winnipeg in 1948, where she married Roy in October 16, 1948. Their family was raised in the Elmwood district. Mother was a strong-witted but loving person who cherished her family and friends. She enjoyed the annual winter visit to Victoria with her husband and her many winning trips to the Casino. In her last few years, she developed a love for oil painting. She was the founder of the "Swinging Sixties" Senior Club at ANAF Unit #60, Garry Street and remained as President until last year. She was awarded a Life Membership to Unit #60 in 1990 for her work. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to those who helped make Mothers last few months special - Marlene of the VON, the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital (especially Jennifer), Dr. Cooke and the Oncology unit and her family doctor, Dr. B. Komenda and his staff. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. at 3:30 p.m. with Father Garry Killen officiating. This will be followed by a celebration of her life with family and friends, at ANAF Unit #60, 279 Garry Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Cancer Research Centre. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.
