BERTHA V. EBY On Monday, October 2, 2000 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB, Bertha V. Eby aged 81 years, beloved wife of Fred Eby of Carman MB. A memorial service will be held from the Carman United Church in Carman, MB on Friday, October 6, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Larstone officiating. Besides her loving husband Fred, Mrs. Eby leaves to cherish her memory, one brother-in-law Gordon Bartley and her niece Linda Fehr both of Morden, MB. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Florence Sutton, by her sister Margaret Bartley on June 7, 1993, and by one nephew Bill Fehr on July 4, 2000. Mrs. Eby was a registered nurse at the Carman Memorial Hospital starting in 1938, becoming Matron in 1955 and retiring after 40 years of service in 1978. Mrs. Eby and Donalda Gibb did research on the history of the years of nurses training at the Carman Memorial Hospital and later a book was published by the University of Manitoba. One of Mrs. Ebys nurses caps is now a part of the National Museum in Ottawa. She was a member of the Carman Ladies Legion Auxiliary and a recipient of their 55-year pin. Flowers gratefully declined, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (Manitoba Division), 1080 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB.
