Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS PILAKAPSI July 25, 1937 - August 26, 2000 It is with sorrow that we announce the death of Louis Pilakapsi on August 26th, 2000. Louis and his crew (Larry Ussak, David Kadjuk, and Sandy Sateana) perished on the West Coast of Hudson Bay, near the community of Arviat, Nunavut, when his boat capsized in bad weather. He served as President of the Aqiggiaq Hunters and Trappers Organization, also as the Vice-Chairperson of the Keewatin Wildlife Federation, and Deputy Mayor of the Hamlet of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and a Director on the Board of the Kivalliq Inuit Association and Nunavut Tungavik Incorporated, Louis was also a member of the Canadian Rangers. He always had the best interest of the Kivalliq people at heart. Louis will be lovingly remembered by his wife Catherine; daughters Margaret Kusugak, Susanne Karetak, Hannah, Debbie, Brenda and Sons Edmond, Roger, Jason, Aaron and Uyukuluk as well as 27 Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren. He will also be missed by numerous family and friends. The Pilakapsi family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to our friends for their love, prayers, flowers and cards, donations made in his memory, and all the phone calls. They are all appreciated. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Search and Rescue Team in Arviat, Rankin Inlet and Whale Cove. Also to the Royal Airforce crew from Britain for their hard work and endless efforts during the search.
