MORRIS PETER MELNYK April 11, 1927 - October 2, 2000 Peacefully, on October 2, 2000, our beloved husband and father, aged 73 years passed away. Morris will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his devoted wife of 43 years, Shirley, and three children, Dan, Tom and Ann. Close to his heart included our beloved Pasha and Ozzy as part of the family. Morris was predeceased by his mother Tekla and father Dmytro. He is survived by one sister, Elsie Melnyk. Morris had numerous sisters and brothers as well as aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews whom he held close to his heart. Dad especially cherished his lifetime friendship with best friends and neighbours Minnie and Frank. Dad was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg. He took much pride in this and always retained his honest, honorable values. He was extremely proud of his Ukrainian heritage and relished its culture. Upon reaching manhood, Dad began his career as a journeyman electrician. He worked for D. Thompson Electric, attempting to learn his trade and later progressed to form Melnyk Brothers Electrical Contractors Ltd. with his brother John. The two brothers created a thriving and very popular business. Dad successfully contributed to the industrial expansion within the city of Winnipeg through the electrical installation provided by Melnyk Bros. Electrical Contractors Ltd. Industrial electrical projects included The Canadian Wheat Board, Polo Park and City Hall, to name a few. In addition to his responsibilities as an electrical contractor, Dad decided to expand his business horizons and venture on to the hotel business. Along with various partners, Dad became the owner/manager of four Manitoba Hotels. Hunting and fishing expeditions were very much enjoyed and his love of nature endured throughout his life. His beloved cabin in Petersfield provided Dad with such joy and will be left as part of his great legacy to his children. To Dad from Dan: Mere words cannot express my deep appreciation for the values you instilled in me. I love you Dad. To Dad from Tom: I will love you forever. I know that these last few years were tough for you, but you still smiled with courage. Dont worry, well take care of Mom. Dad, you were such a source of incredible inspiration, being a self-made man. Thank you for your encouragement, your undying love and your neverending devotion as a father. You and Mom taught your children to reach for the stars and set high personal and professional standards. For this, I am forever in your debt. Love, your only daughter, Ann Marie. Viewing and prayers will be on Thursday evening, October 5 at 9:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, with Rt Rev. Mitrat Gregory Oucharyk and Rev. Deacon Nicholas Kohuch officiating.
