ERNA GERTRUDE OLSCHEWSKI Erna Gertrude Olschewsky was born June 4, 1914 in Great Schoendamerau, East Prussia as the only daughter of the blacksmith Richard Olschewsky and his wife Maria. She went home to be with the Lord she loved and served after a brief period of illness at the Concordia Hospital on October 4, 2000. Erna married Ernst Wilhelm Olschewski on June 8, 1938 in Waldau, East Prussia. God blessed this union with three sons and two daughters. Towards the end of the Second World War, the family fled their East Prussia homeland to settle in Northern Germany. From there the family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in June of 1953. They became members at the former Third German Baptist Church, (Rowandale) and later joined Mission Church of which she remained a faithful member until the time of her passing. In 1989 mom moved to Meadowood Manor. Her whole life was a living testimony and a reflection of Gods love and grace in word and deed. Her unselfish personality was always concerned about the well-being of others around her, the only goal being to thus glorify the Lord. With her positive attitude and steadfast faith, mom was able to be counselor and help to many old and young alike. Her most favourite advice was "It could be worse." She had a wonderful sense of humour. Erna was predeceased by her parents; one baby son Ernst (1946) her husband Ernst Wilhelm (1967) and one grandson Robert Olsen (2000). Her passing is mourned by her only brother Willy and family in Germany; daughter Gisela Viehweger and husband Hans, son Robert Olsen and wife Jeannette, son Heinz (Wilhelm) Olschewski, daughter Dorothy Schulz and husband Harry; thirteen grandchildren and families and fifteen great-grandchildren. Our dear mom and grandma passed on to us a legacy not of earthly wealth, but one of eternal value. Dearest mom, we will always remember you with gratitude and love - your children and families, relatives, numerous friends and acquaintances. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Avenue, with interment following in Brookside Cemetery. Viewing at the church, prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
