Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGRETCHEN SCHULTE (nee BROEK) August 31, 1916 to October 4, 2000 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gretchen Schulte on Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at the age of 84 years. Gretchen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her beloved husband of 62 years, Gerd; her sons, Hans (Erika) of Germany, Gerold (Ruth) of Lac Du Bonnet; her daughters, Gerda (Arthur) Sommerfeld of Whitemouth, Annegret (Arthur) Hiller, Christa Hiller and Erika (Bodo) Brandt, all from Winnipeg as well as her 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her three sisters, three brothers and their extended families. She was predeceased by one granddaughter, her parents, her parents-in-law, two sisters, three brothers-in-law, two nephews and one niece. Mom was born the eldest of nine children in Loga bei Leer, Ostfriesland. The family moved to Ahrensdorf, Germany where she met and fell in love with her husband, our father. They were married on March 19, 1938 and settled on the Schulte family homestead in Boesel, Germany. On November 29, 1959 the family set sail for their new home in Canada, leaving behind a part of their heart - a link of their chain, their eldest son and brother Hans. After a brief stop in Quebec City on December 9th, the family continued their journey and arrived in Whitemouth on December 12, 1959, which became and remained Mom and Dads home until her passing. Friends may pay their respects on Friday October 6 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a devotional service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Fellowship Church. Viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Whitemouth Fellowship Cemetery. The family would like to extend their thanks to the First Responders and the Whitemouth Home Care Team for their care and assistance. A very special thank you to Shawna and Ramona for their kindness, concern and for making a very difficult day a little bit easier. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whitemouth Fellowship Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6. God looked around his garden And found an empty space; He then looked down upon this earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest; Gods garden must be beautiful He only takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you were in pain He knew you might never Get well upon this earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, Peace be thine. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you never went alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Gott mit Dir, bis wir uns wieder sehn, Ruhe in Frieden. In Liebe verbunden Dein Gerd, Kinder, Enkel und Urenkel. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL, Park Ave. E. Beausejour, Man. in care of arrangements. Phone: 1-204-268-3510 or Man. Toll Free 1-877-776-2220
