Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT ALBERT McKELVEY November 2, 1914- October 5, 2000 Suddenly on October 5, 2000, at the age of 85 years, Bob McKelvey passed away. Leaving to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 60 years, Cay (Catherine Adamson) sons, Rob (Jean), Len (Wendy), Dan (Dianne), Howard (Debbie) and daughter Cathy (Rick), 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sister Beatrice (Ed) Shute of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg in the Weston area where he lived all his life. He was educated at Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He served in the RCAF in the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Weston/Brooklands Branch. In 1979 Bob retired from the Winnipeg School Division #1 after 29 years of service in the Building Department. He started his career as a carpenter and retired as the Supervisor of Construction. Bob was a lifelong member of Sparling United Church and served in many capacities. He was an active community volunteer, canvassing for the Manitoba Heart Foundation and delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. He was an avid swimmer and was actively involved with the North Winnipeg Centennial Seniors Club. In 1948, along with his brother and sisters, he acquired property in South Beach, Gimli. He loved spending every summer with his family and we all have many fond memories of Dad and Gimli. Bob was strongly committed to social democratic ideals and a was a lifetime member of the New Democratic Party. He was particularly proud of a photo of himself with Stanley Knowles and Tommy Douglas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, in Sparling United Church, with Rev. Harold Ritchie officiating. Cremation has taken place.
