EDWARD TENSZEN May 5, 1919 - October 8, 2000 On the evening of Sunday, October 8, with his family at his side, Ed Tenszen passed away at Concordia Place. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bernice; sons Barry (Lynn), Don (Bridget), and grandsons Colin and Jared. Ed was born in Portage la Prairie and came from a large family of 11. His mother died when he was only fourteen and he had to assume the household duties and responsibilities. As a young man, Ed proudly served overseas with the Camerons during The Second World War. He was stationed in both England and France. He was wounded in action and was left with only partial use of his left arm. He later became a decorated war veteran. Upon returning home, he settled in Winnipeg. There he met his future wife Bernice and raised his family in East Kildonan. For most of his working life, Ed was employed with the City of Winnipeg Corps of Commissionaires; he retired in 1978. Dad loved baseball and didnt miss a Blue Jays game. He was very fond of his grandsons and was proud of their achievements. He also enjoyed attending their sports events and concerts. "Poppy" and "Nanny" were always there. Special thanks to the Bethania BTU staff who cared for dad during the last eight months. Heartfelt appreciation to Charlotte and Alida for their compassion and support given to mom. We would also like to thank Jaspal and Norma of Concordia Place for their special care during Dads final days. At Eds request, cremation has taken place. A private gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, October 11. Flowers gratefully declined. In remembrance of dads love of animals, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg R2L 1X3. We will always love you Poppy. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
