ALBERT "BERT" McCONNELL January 27, 1927 - October 8, 2000 With his family by his side, on Sunday October 8, 2000 Bert McConnell, age 73 years passed away at the Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg. Bert was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan and grew up in The Pas, Manitoba. Bert will be sadly missed by his wife Elaine; children Fred, Terry, Cindy (Ross), Shelley (Rick) and Jodi (Arne) grandchildren Daniel, Nicole, Heather, Andrea and Erik Albert; sisters Doris, Margaret, Ruby (Tom) and Lois (Doc) , many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Joyce, mother Ethel and father Albert. Throughout his life, Bert worked at many places. TCA in Winnipeg, The Royal Canadian Engineers (Army) in 1945, the RCMP, where he enjoyed life in the Arctic, Trans Air in Churchill, Ontario Department of Lands and Forests, an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in NW Ontario (mainly Sioux Lookout 14 years) and Ministry of Transport in Winnipeg (15 years). He retired in 1990. As a young man, Bert enjoyed his Harley Davidson. Later, he enjoyed his family and socializing with his buddies. He was well known as the resident handyman in Sioux Lookout. After his retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren, family, cottage and his dog Treasure. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue, with Pastor Larry Larson officiating. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge for their loving care of both Bert and his family.
