Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTA SPRICENIEKS (nee MEIJA) Peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2000 at The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Marta Spricenieks passed away at the age of 95. Born September 20, 1905 in Riga Latvia. Mom was a strong willed person. That probably helped her to live through two world wars, leaving her beloved country during the Second World War, the five years in Germany and finally arriving in 1949 at Pier 45 in Halifax, Canada. Her journey led her to Kitchener, Ontario. There Dad and her built their first home in a strange county. She worked 25 years at the Forsythe Company, of this she was very proud, having received a trophy for her achievements. Life was not easy, specially through all this, bringing up two sons and a daughter. She loved singing, having belonged to many choirs in Canada and Latvia. Always insisting there should be singing at gathering of friends. After Dads passing in 1971 she developed a love for crocheting and needlepoint. All her family and many of her friends can proudly display some of her work. She moved to Winnipeg in late the 70s making new friends. She belonged to Winnipeg Latvian Society and Latvian Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Mom was a religious person. She believed strongly in God. In her last year of her life she was deprived by her illness of what she was and what she loved to do. God saw her getting tired and on October 7th this year took her in His arms and gave her eternal peace. Left to cherish her memory is daughter Ausma Kaktins (Gunars) sons Alfreds (Dace), Visvaldis-Vally (Lyn) grandchildren Sylvia-Linda, Peter, Kenneth (Jennifer), Michelle-Mara, Jeffry, Elza-Elize and great grandchildren Krisjanis, Tyler and her nephew Karlis (Ausma) and family in Latvia. She was predeceased in Canada by her husband and two grandsons, also two sisters in Latvia. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. The family would like to extend heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful nurses and care givers at The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for being kind and compassionate to Marta throughout her stay there. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, a donation may be made, in memory of her, to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
