JESSIE RAMSAY (INVERARITY) WHYTE With deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother on Sunday, October 8, 2000, at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Mom was born to James and Christina Inverarity on September 27, 1912 at her parents home at Wellwood, Man. She received her education at Wellwood Consolidated School and later, in 1933, married Thomas Whyte. Together, they reared eight children on the family farm northeast of Wellwood. For nearly half a century, under our parents generous hospitality, "Whytewood" became a home and gathering place for friends and family. Mom always had time in her schedule and a place in her heart for anyone who came to her door. Not only did she engage with people in person, but she also maintained an extensive correspondence with family, extended family and friends, all of whom were treated with acceptance and love. An avid baseball fan since her playing days with the Wellwood Pats, her keen interest in sports continued throughout her life. Her passion and genuine interest in people and life in general, combined with her skills as a communicator, went well beyond the thousands of cards and letters she composed. Mom expressed her interest in people and the world around her in her many years of writing columns in the Carberry News Express. Only her last illness quieted the pen and the messages which were appreciated by people across the globe. Moms strong faith and feisty nature helped sustain her while rearing her eight children and through Dads death in 1993. What she received through her faith, she gave back in full measure. She felt strongly that being a member of a community meant willingly volunteering in whatever capacity was needed. She held leadership positions in the 4-H Club, was superintendent of the United Church Sunday School and was a member of both the United Church Women and the Presbyterian Womens Guild. Even after her retirement to Carberry, she continued as an active community volunteer both in Carberry and Wellwood. Mom had an inherent love of Scotland and anything Scottish. So much was Scotland in her blood that at age 85 she made her third trip to Scotland renewing ties with both sides of the family tree. Mom will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her children, Yvonne Graham (Don), Brandon; Joan and Lois, Winnipeg; Jim (Lorna), Wellwood, George (Denise Walker), Wellwood; Jeanette Dawes (Jack), Saltcoats, SK; Heather Lewis (Jon), Minnedosa; Ferg (Donelda), Carberry; her sisters-in-law, Marge Inverarity, Saskatoon, SK; Ethel Inverarity, Dinsmore, SK; Anne Nielson, Wellwood; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Tommy, she was predeceased by her parents, James and Christina Inverarity; parents-in-law, James and Georgina Whyte; sister Bessie Adam; infant sisters, Christina and Mabel; brothers, George, Tom and John; sisters-in-law, Mabel Inverarity, Mae (Mary) Major, Lottie (Charlotte) Ferguson; brothers-in-law, Jack Adam, Ed Major, Folmer Nielson, Fergie (Clinton) Ferguson; sons-in-law, Grant Mitchell and Gerry May; infant granddaughter Natalie Hammond; grandson Garth May and great-grandson Garth Taillieu. Moms first priority was always her family; her relationship with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren was very special. Mom was an admirable role model and for this we are deeply blessed. A Memorial Service will be held at Carberry United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13 with Rev. Peggy Reid officiating. Should friends wish, contributions may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of ones choice. Whites Funeral Home, Neepawa is in charge of arrangements.
