DOROTHY McKENDRY It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy McKendry (nee McMorland), wife of the late John McKendry, announce her sudden passing on September 29, 2000 while visiting in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 75 years. Born November 11, 1924 in Winnipeg, MB, Dorothy was a resident of Marathon for 52 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John and by two sisters and four brothers. She is survived by son Andrew (Brenda) and grandchildren, Graham and Erin; son Duncan (Doreen), grandchildren, Tara and Meaghan and daughter Elaine (Dave) Sande and grandchildren, Michael and Caitlin; sisters, Marg (Vancouver) Janet (Lumby, B.C.) and Marian (Winnipeg) and brother Rob (Kamloops). One of her great joys was the "Grammas in the classroom" program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marathon. Local senior volunteers would go to the public school to help out the little ones with their reading etc. which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. Dorothy was also active in the Auxiliary to Wilson Memorial General Hospital, UCW, United Church choir, Senior Citizens Club and curling club in her younger years. She had also worked for the Childrens Aid Society for a time. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and baking (well known for her delicious scones) and she loved to get together with friends to play bridge. Always a happy person she enjoyed telling a little joke or telling a funny story. A service was held in Lumby, B.C. on October 3 and a Memorial Service, conducted by Rev. David Giuliano was held in Marathon at St. Johns United Church on Saturday, October 7. Interment in the Marathon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
