ALBERTINE MARIE "YVONNE" SMITH (nee MAIRE) Peacefully on October 11, 2000 Albertine Marie "Yvonne" Smith passed away at the age of 85. Left to treasure her memory are her husband Malcolm (Mac) Smith; son Dougald (Marjorie) Smith of Ingleside, Ontario and daughter Maureen (Richard) Kolodie of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Gregory (Doreen) Smith, Kimberley Smith (Glen Barrett) of Ontario, Erin (Bob) McShane, Colin (Karen) Kolodie, Michael (Kristin) Kolodie of Winnipeg; and great-grandchildren, Spencer, Riley and Melanie. She was predeceased by her brother Francois Maire and parents Juliette and Marius Maire. Yvonne was born in Wauchope, Saskatchewan. She moved to Winnipeg where she met and married Malcolm. Yvonne was a devoted wife and an excellent mother who taught her children well. Yvonne had a deep faith in God. She loved to entertain and her dinners were superb. She was a talented seamstress with clientelle from both Canada and the USA. She also sewed costumes for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Manitoba Opera. Yvonne had a passion for playing cards and taught her grandchildren to play many card games. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida where she learned to play shuffleboard, winning many trophies. She loved flowers and always looked forward to spring when she could get out to plant. Her summer gardens were outstanding and her treasured begonias were a beauty to behold. Funeral Service in celebration of Yvonnes life will take place on Saturday, October 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion Street. Her cremated remains will be interred in the family plot at a later date. She gently took death by the hand And journeyed to the promised land... And there, with step so light and gay She polishes the sun by day And lights the stars that shine at night And keeps the moonbeams silvery bright Mothers and grandmothers never really die They just keep house up in the sky... And in that heavenly home above They wait to welcome those they love. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 200-55 Donald St., Winnipeg MB R3C 1L8 or to St. Johns College Chapel, 92 Dysart Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2M5.
