MOISZE (MORRIS) MELNICER May 20, 1918 - October 8, 2000 On Sunday, October 8, 2000, Morris Melnicer passed away at the age of 82. He will forever be cherished and remembered by his beloved wife of the past 57 years, Clara (Chaika Bresner) by his son Rafael (Ralph) and daughter-in-law Sharon; by his daughter Brenda and son-in-law Don; and his adoring grandchildren, Joanna, Marc and Shaun. Morris was born in Turysk, Poland in 1918, to a large family, of which he was the sole survivor of the holocaust. This tragic circumstance shaped his future and nature. Together with his life partner, Clara, whom he married in Tashkent, Turkistan, USSR, he escaped the inferno, worked as part of the administration of a Russian military hospital, where he and Clara gave birth to their first-born, Rafael in 1945. This noble man led his tiny family halfway across the world, under the direst of conditions, to the safety and security of Winnipeg. There, Morris and Clara gave birth to their daughter Brenda, who added to their family pride. As the family grew with the addition of the grandchildren, so did Zaidas "nachus". Moiszes value system of honesty, integrity, kindness, and hard work was foremost in the legacy he left to his devoted family. From his corner store, he established a formidable career; raised a happy family; and, gained the respect of thousands who passed through his doors for nourishment and sustenance. He was not only the local grocer, but also the advisor, lawyer, counsellor, agent, banker and friend. Funeral services were held at Beth Israel Synagogue, led by Rabbi Oleisky and Cantor Berkal. The pallbearers were Don, Marc and Shaun Gibson, Moshe Selchen, Ken and Kory Zelickson. Shiva was observed at the home of his daughter. The family wishes to extend special appreciation to Dr. Arthur Blank.
