JOHN SHUMSKI John passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on October 12, 2000 at the age of 96 years at the Concordia Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving wife Effie in 1997; his son Ernest in 1983 and his brother Joe in 1982. Left to cherish his memory John leaves behind his children, Victor (Cynthia), Thomas (Barbara), Josie (Len) grandchildren, Tammy, Timmy, Cheri, Curtis, Cathy, Natasha, Erica and Dale. He will also be missed by his sister Anne Somacha of Dauphin; sister-in-law Anne Shumsky of Winnipegosis and other extended family. John farmed for many years in the Small Creek area. In 1938 he married the love of his life, Effie. They raised four children. Effie and Johns strong Christian faith was a very important part of their lives and was instilled and carried on by their children. He was always willing to help others and thought of them before himself. John was a gentle soul, a soft spoken man with deep abiding faith in God on his lifes journey amid all the trials and tribulations. Johns family would like to thank all the staff at Donwood Manor and staff on the 3rd floor at Concordia Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Prayers and viewing will be held on Sunday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 16 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Gerards Parish, 45 Foster St. Interment Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johns memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund, or St. Gerards Foundations Fund or a charity of your choice.
