JOHN ELLIS MARSHALL It is with great sadness that the family of John Marshall announces his passing, with courage and dignity at St. Boniface Hospital on October 12, 2000, at the age of 69. Besides his loving wife Lois, John is survived by his mother Vera; his children, Robert (Lauri Ann) of Moosonee, Ont., Patricia (Rick) Stukless of Trenton, Ont., and Richard (Jocelyn) of Rennie, Man.; also his stepdaughters, Pamela Johnson and Laura Cayer of Winnipeg, Man. As well, John leaves his eight grandchildren, Peter, Jennifer, Troy, Amy, Sarah, Karli, John and Nicholas. He is also survived by his sister Joan (Doug) Osborne of Regina, Sask., and their children, Jeff, Allison, Barbara, Scott and their families; as well, sister-in-law Beverley (Jeffrey) Allen and son Matthew of Daphne, Alabama; mother-in-law Beatrice Wilson of Winnipeg and "special" cousin Valerie (Bob) Friesen and family, Brandy (Orlando) and Bobby (Stacey) and many other relatives and friends who will miss John dearly. John was predeceased by his first wife Lorraine in 1983 and his father Claude in 1959. John was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Rouge. He attended Earl Grey and Kelvin schools and was a student at United College for one year. John graduated from the University of Manitoba as a Mechanical Engineer in 1954 and was employed with Air Canada for the first ten years. He then joined the city of Winnipeg Transit Dept. and retired from the position of Superintendent of Maintenance in 1992. John was a true gentleman who lived his life at all times with honour, integrity, kindness and generosity. John always put everyone else before himself. His love and dedication for his mother was apparent in all he did for her. Johns unconditional love surrounded his family and one of his greatest pleasures was the frequent family dinners attended by as many of his children and grandchildren as possible. His love of nature was obvious by his daily three mile walks no matter what the weather held in store for him. John and Lois spent many quiet peaceful times at their "little home away from home," Poplar Bay, where he enjoyed each and every part of the wonders of nature that surrounded him. For many years John enjoyed bowling with the Bonanza Bowling League and was treasurer, a job he very much enjoyed. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Regents Park United Church, 613 St. Marys Rd., on Wednesday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all of their tender loving care durings Johns illness. Flowers are gratefully declined, however, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9, or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, Man., R2L 1X3, in Johns memory would be greatly appreciated.
