Date of Passing: Oct 13, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ZAWADA (CHUBEY) Peacefully with God looking on, Mary Zawada passed away at Tudor House, Selkirk, on October 13, 2000, at the age of 86. Born in Gonor, Man., Mary was the daughter of the late Harry and Paraska (Kaziuk) Chubey; also predeceased by her husband William; daughter Olga Glubka; sister Anne Kowaliuk and brothers, Mike and Andrew; as well as many other dear friends and relatives. Mom was the heart of our lives, as her kitchen was the heart of her home. She welcomed many, many visitors with coffee, home-made donuts, cinnamon buns, borscht and sandwiches. Those closest to her will especially miss her and cherish each memory of their times together: son John (Olga) and grandchildren, Sean (Shawna) and Audra (Justin) of Calgary and Scott (Tia) of Sacramento, California and Doug (Barb) and grandsons, Blake and Braden of Oakbank, MB. Also left to mourn her passing are sisters, Katie Gushulak of Vita, Nettie (Nick) Boychuk of Sundown, Helen (John) Hershfield of Sprague and brothers, Steve (Violet) Chubey of Vita and Bill Chubey of Arbakka. Many nieces and nephews have a special place in their hearts for their "Auntie Mary". We are thankful that John could come home from Kuwait to be with us. Other active Pallbearers are Sean Zawada, Scott Zawada, Blake Zawada, John Morgoch and Terry Gibb. Honorary Pallbearers (others close to Moms heart) are Steve Chubey, Bill Chubey, Peter Demuriak, Charlie Lavoie (Surrey, B.C.) and Gil McGowan (Calgary). Mom will long be remembered for her many years as Cook at Red River Nursing Home in Selkirk. She never failed to make a meal for hundreds of people taste like a delicious family Sunday meal at Babas house. Our family wishes to express our profound gratitude to the staff of Tudor House. In her one short week there, Mom was the recipient of very loving care and support each and every day. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of our hearts! A service to celebrate Moms life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18 at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends and family so wish, donations may be made in memory of our "Mom and Baba" to the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada (Manitoba Chapter), 350 St. Mary, Wpg, MB (945-9474). Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
