MARY STECHISHIN (nee PALANUK) Peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2000 Mary Stechishin passed away at Oakview Place Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Predeceased by her loving husband Victor in August, 1997 and her sister Hazel, she leaves to mourn her son Peter (Gale) of Winnipeg; daughter Christine of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; grandsons, Allan Douglas Stechishin of Winnipeg, David Pearson of Vancouver; granddaughter Jennifer Pearson (Jon) of Vancouver; sisters, Claire Palnuk, Olive Couch (Don) and Lillian Palanuk of Winnipeg; brother Dan Palanuk (Evelyn) of Pine Falls and sister-in-law Emily Zaplatynsky of Winnipeg; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Mary met her future husband Victor in their church choir. Their marriage in 1939 lasted 57 years before his passing. Always deeply dedicated to her family, Mary willingly devoted much of her time throughout her life to the caring and nurturing of her children and grandchildren. As her children grew older, Mary spent several years working as a sales clerk in various departments of the Hudsons Bay Companys store in downtown Winnipeg. She also found time to accompany her husband on many trips to exotic locations around the world, and would fondly reminisce about touring in Europe, whale watching in Hawaii, riding elephants in Thailand and shopping in Hong Kong. At all times Mom was finding ways she could help to make things easier for her children and their families as they grew. We will forever cherish and remember her constant caring, generosity and kindness. A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17 with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Marys memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
