GUDRUN MARGARET JOHNSON (nee Halldorson) Peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2000, at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Gudrun Johnson, aged 89 years of Ashern, MB. Gudrun was born in Westbourn, MB June 26, 1911. She moved with her family to the Hayland district as a young girl and attended school in Hayland and Lundar. She married John S. in 1936. They lived on the family farm near Vogar on Husey Lake until 1978 when they retired and moved to Ashern. While on the farm, she carried on many of the Icelandic traditions brought over from Iceland by her pioneerng parents, such as making skyr, vinaterta, rulapilsa, messostir, spnning her own yarn and crocheting. She was actively involved with farm chores in they hayfield and milking cows, and was a member of the Siglunes Ladies Aid for many years. She is sruvived by her children, Halldor (Marianne), Frank (Sylvia), Wayne (Jan), Shirley Taylor (Warren) son-in-law Siggi Emilson (Joan) grandchildren, Sharon Wuzinski (Larry), Mark Emilson (Karen), Kathi Budge (Ken), Cindy Miller (Bill), Trevor Emilson (Lori), Finn Johnson (Tara), Erika Johnson, Stefan Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Andrea Johnson, Marc Johnson, Lindsey Taylor; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Setta Eggertson and Sophia Routledge (Ken) brothers-in-law, Rolf Forseng and Pete Davidson. She was predeceased by her husband John S. Johnson; daughter Jonina Emilson; granddaughter Leanne Johnson; brother Freeman Halldorson; sisters, Helga Sveistrup, Bjorg Forseng and Anna Davidson; parents, Margaret and Halldor Halldorson and stepfather Olafur Magnusson. Cremation has taken place. Following a private family graveside service at the Vogar Cemetery, a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern, MB with Pastor Ingthor Isfeld officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB or to a charity of your choice.
