Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" ADAMOSKI (nee BUYS) Peacefully, on October 14, 2000 surrounded by family and friends at the St. Boniface General Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born in Hamiota, Manitoba on June 7, 1940, Betty is survived by her loving children Leslie and Ken Smith, Britney and Alexi; Leah (Kevin Erickson) and baby Brett. Also surviving are her brother in Edmonton, George (Norma Buys) and her sister Dorothy Ann Buys (Mel Holowachuk), her brother-in-law Doug Powles and his wife, Joan, and Bettys special friend, companion and caregiver Brenda and her dog Boo. She also leaves many nieces and nephews to whom she felt very close, two cousins in Holland and many special friends. She was predeceased by her father Ted in 1953, her sister Joan in 1978 and her dear mother Anne in January, 2000. Betty was raised and educated in Selkirk, Manitoba and graduated from the Selkirk Mental Hospital in 1961 as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, a part of her life that was very important to her. She was married in 1960 to Daniel Adamoski with whom she had two daughters. She took post-graduate training throughout Canada with emphasis on family and group therapy. She retired recently from St. Boniface Hospital where she had worked since January 1973. In 1983, she was awarded the sister Delia Clermont award for excellence in Clinical Practise. She co-wrote an article on Group Therapy which was published in 1998. She also wrote as a hobby and had been a representative for the nursing newsletter. Besides writing, she wrote some music and loved gardening, music, reading, theatre, ballet and photography but most of all her family and her home. Mom touched many lives with her wisdom, her kind words, soothing voice, gentle hands and her warm and caring heart. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Bettys life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19 at St. Phillips Anglican Church, Tache and Eugenie with the Rev. Gordon Shields officiating. After a reception at the St. Philips Hall, interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the family plot in St. Clements Cemetery, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 300 Olivia Street or to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ellice Avenue, Winnipeg. Special thanks to Doctors, Nurses, X-ray and Radiotherapy techs and all staff at St. Boniface Hospital, especially Jill Taylor-Brown, Tim Frymire and Jessie Kehler, Drs. Foerster, Dabrowska, Schroeder, Daeninck and Rush and others too numerous to mention. To the very special Oncology Nurses and Nurses on 5B and PCU, heartfelt thanks.
