Special friends, dancing partners, dinner partners and friends from his church family. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Berniece (January 1936 to August 1981), and by his second wife of 10 years, Mary (August 1986 to February 1996) his father in 1932 and his mother in 1948; his brother Ernie Gowen; sisters, May Galle and Edith Kimzey. George was born in England and arrived in Canada at the age of 11 and has resided in the Selkirk area for most of his life. He worked at the Rolling Mills and with Manitoba Telephone System until his retirement in 1975. He served as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. George was a faithful member of St. Clements Anglican Church at Mapleton. His service varied from serving on the Vestry, singing in the choir, working on clean up bees, painting the inside of the church, decorating at special times of the year, helping to build an extension to the church hall, cooking pancakes on Shrove Tuesdays and setting up a PA system and using his knowledge to set up for outdoor services. George was very appreciative of the fact that he maintained his own home and garden and could go out with his friends to many functions. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Clements Anglican Church, River Road, Mapleton, the Reverend Glenda Drew officiating. We only think weve seen it all, what we havent begun to see is the abundance that surrounds us, the beauty that gift wraps the extravagance of each day. We love you Dad.
