ANNE VERESTIUK On Monday, October 16, 2000, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Anne Verestiuk of Steinbach passed away at the age of 79 years. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Gladu of Winnipeg; two sisters, Emily Kraynyk of Winnipeg and Mary (Andy) Toffan of Steinbach; one brother, Peter Elkiw of Pansy, sister-in-law, Elma Elkiw of Steinbach; two brothers-in-law, John (Ann) Verestiuk of Sarto and Steve (Olga) Verestiuk of Hamilton, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1994 as well as her parents. Anna was born in the Steinbach area on December 21, 1920 to Wasyl and Sophie (nee Swynar) Elkiw. On January 23, 1940 she married Peter Verestiuk, with whom she shared the next 54 years of her life. Anna had many interests in her life. She particularly enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting, crocheting and embroidering, making perogies and cabbage rolls. She also enjoyed helping the ladies with the cooking at Sarto Hall or the church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto with Rev. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Messers: Corey Dudar, Maurice Elkiw, Maurice Kraynyk, Randy Verestiuk, Allan Verestiuk and Steve Ruta.
