Blanche was born in Eureka, Pictou Country, Nova Scotia, in 1920. Moving to Manitoba as a young girl, she grew up in Winnipegs, North End attending St. Johns High School. She married Len Anderson in 1942 and they spent some time in Neepawa before moving to Winnipegs Wildwood Park in 1948. In 1968, Len and Blanche moved to Kenora, Ont., where they became owner/operators of Hockey Haven Resort. Blanche was always athletically active, winning medals and trophies for speedskating, track, bowling, curling and golf. She was a longtime member of the Pembina Curling Club and The Wildewood Club before moving to Kenora and joining the Kenora Golf Course and Kenora Curling Club. Her skits and songs were always a source of fun and camaraderie for every group she belonged to. She proudly acknowledged her Scottish heritage with her love of the bagpipes, highland songs and "Brigadoon". Blanche will be tremendously missed by all her long time friends at Hockey Haven, who always enjoyed her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour. Blanche took them all into her extended family and was loved by everybody. Thanks to Drs. Beveridge and Cameron and to the wonderful nursing staff on the 2nd floor of the Lake of the Woods Hospital, who became friends as well as caregivers. According to Blanches wishes, cremation has already taken place and there will be no service. If friends so desire, donations in Blanchess memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
