Born: Feb 06, 1938
Date of Passing: Oct 18, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCARL CARLETON Peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at the Beausejour District Hospital, Beausejour, Man., William Carl Carleton passed away at the age of 62 years. Dad leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Lynn (Rick) Barnes of Medicine Hat, Alta., daughter Lee of Winnipeg and son Scott (Dodie) of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his precious wife Helen in 1991, his parents Lynn and Ethel and a brother Donald. Dad was born February 6, 1938, in Flin Flon, Man. At the age of six, his family moved to The Pas, Man., where they farmed and he completed his schooling. Searching for the good life, Dad joined the Midwest Diamond Drilling in Northern Manitoba and soon after, joined the Manitoba Department of Natural Resources as a Conservation Officer. Dads career with the Department of Natural Resources spanned over 30 years and took him and Mom to many different communities where they made many wonderful friends. After their marriage in 1964, they moved to Thompson and from there they went to Minitonas, Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, Ashern, Birds Hill Provincial Park and finally to Beausejour. Dads love for animals and nature was evident in the years he spent preserving wildlife, battling forest fires and promoting hunter safety. His respect and admiration for the people he encountered was relayed to us by the many stories he told of his excursions all over the Province of Manitoba. Dad was very active in the United Church and served on many committees and boards. When we were children he was constantly chauffeuring us to hockey, baseball, and was even dubbed Honorary Brownie in the Selkirk Brownie Pack in the 80s. Dont tell anyone, but his favourite part was Brownie Camp. During his retirement Dad served on the C.O.P.S. Program in Beausejour and worked for many years for the Beausejour Food Bank. Upon retiring he took up golfing and together with his pal Gibby Smith, learned how to cheat at golf by playing at least twice a week. During the winter he was an avid fan of the Selkirk Steelers and enjoyed many MJHL hockey games. Above all else Dad loved being with his kids. Golfing, going to hockey games, playing cribbage and telling us wonderful stories that only he could tell. We are grateful for the time that we got to spend with him, for the life lessons that he taught us and the people he helped us to become. We would like to thank the many people who helped during Dads illness; Dads very good friend Don Mann, for all the visits and the time they shared; Dr. Zeiler for taking such wonderful care of him, Dads "girls" Alice, Cathy and Lori who helped him keep his independence as long as possible; Melanie Shumilak and Lucille Chay who guided us and councilled us throughout. Special thanks to the congregation of St. Pauls United Church for the many prayers, and to Rev. Kelly Thomson for her thoughtfulness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. from the St. Pauls United Church, 730 James Ave., Beausejour, Man., with the Rev. Kelly Thomson officiating. Interment in the Beausejour Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Monday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at Russell Funeral Homes. If friends so desire memorial donations in Carls memory may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., or to the Beausejour Food Bank, Beausejour, Man. "I see a smile upon his face, As Dad moves on to another place, And watches Mom standing there, As Heavens wind blows through her hair. Now two young souls walk hand in hand, In a place where theres no mortal man, Where spirits know, no sorrow, no pain, And where our Dad knows Mom again."
