SAMUEL ROBERT EWART Peacefully with his family at his side, Samuel Robert Ewart, husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre on October 19, 2000, in his 80th year. Sam is survived by his wife Mildred of 54 years; daughters, Elaynna (Tom), Judi (Jack), Gina (Kris) and grandchildren, Paul, Jason, Colin, Brooke and Konrad and by one brother Tom of Duncan, B.C. Sam was born in Belfast Ireland in 1920, immigrated to Canada with his family at age five and resided in Winnipeg. He served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force attached to the Radar Division of the R.A.F. from 1941 until 1946. During his extensive career, he was employed with Milady Sellors, Huggard and Laugh, retiring in 1980 after 30 years as Vice President of Finance at Standard Aero Engine Ltd. Following his retirement he was appointed to the Manitoba Securities Commission where he served for 10 years. Sam was in the first graduating class of Registered Industrial and Cost Accountants of Manitoba, later becoming known as the Society of Management Accountants (now CMA). He was an active member of Breezy Bend Country Club, serving as Treasurer and President for a number of years, after which he became a member of the St. Charles Country Club where he remained a member for 30 years, until his passing. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, St. James. Sam will be fondly remembered by his family as well as the many friends, associates and fellow employees of Standard Aero Engine Ltd whose lives were touched by his friendship and support over the years. The family wishes to extend special thanks to his Home Care nurses, Angela, Diana, Lucy and Lydia; also his faithful friend Jack McCormick. We also wish to give heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of Deer Lodge Centre, 3 East for the excellent care and compassion given to our husband and father. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 23, in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Galston officiating. A private family interment will precede the service in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined.
