Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BERT) GORDON It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Gordon on Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at the age of 93. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Judy and son-in-law Bob; grandson Gord (Vicki) and granddaughter Chris (Gary) great-grandchildren, Joseph, Ava, Canaan, Alex, Reid and Jackson; also his brother Jim and many nieces and nephews. Bert was predeceased by his loving wife Irene; young son Bobby; his parents, brothers, Bill, Hugh, George and sister Jean. Bert was born January 17, 1907 in Aberdeen, Scotland. His family came to Canada in 1910 and settled in the north end of Winnipeg. At 17 years of age, he began working for the Canadian National Railway. He was a machinist at the Transcona Shops until his retirement at the age of 65. It was on the shop train that he met his beloved wife of 55 years, Irene Holmes. Bert was a member of the Masonic Lodge Empire #127 where he served as secretary for several years. He was also a member of St. Georges Anglican Church. Bert and Irene spent many happy times at Falcon Lake with their daughter and family. Even his advancing years did not diminish Berts determination and independence. He remained active in his community and enjoyed get-togethers with past CNR employees. Dad will be remembered as a giving and devoted father and grandfather. He remained a continual source of strength and support to those he loved. He was a kind and selfless man. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 24 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral service to follow on Wednesday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m. also at the Chapel with Rev. Karen Toole officiating. Interment at Transcona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gordon Partridge, Gary Mattocks, Doug Jackson, Jeff Gordon, Lawrence Webb and Brian Bacon. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Berts memory to a charity of ones choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
