JOHN ARTHUR ZACHARKOW The family of John Zacharkow sadly announce his sudden passing, at the age of 88 years, on his homestead. He is predeceased by his wife Winnifred. John is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Carrie Woods of Gimli, MB, Mrs. Josephine Funk and his brother Morris, both of Bissett, MB. He is also survived by his five children: three sons, Ben (Lavon) of Vancouver, B.C., Barry (Deborah) of Winnipeg, MB, Brent (Meagan) of Dallas, MB and two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Chapman (Lee) of Erickson, MB and Mrs. Bernice Stefansson (Jon) of Winnipeg, MB and six grandchildren, Lindsay and Josh, Lee-Ann and Phillip, John and Murray. John grew up on the family farm at Red Rose, MB and spent many busy winters commercial fishing, pulp cutting, and logging. He also made ends meet, in the lean years, by trapping. John retired as an employee of the Department of Mines and Natural Resources. After retirement he spent most of his time in the woodworking shop and enjoying lapidary. He will be remembered always for his support and love of his children, for his sense of humour and his gentleness. Dad found great joy in the outdoors. Among his many accomplishments and interests he still found time to help those less fortunate than himself. He will be forever remembered and sadly missed. Thank you for a lifetime of love and memories. God Bless you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 22 at the Stevens Memorial United Church in Fisher River, MB at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Fisher Branch, MB (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803.
