Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBILL MCCREADY Bill McCready, 98 years, beloved Dad of Sheila Bates passed away on October 15, 2000 in North Battleford. Dad was Irish through and through having been born in Belfast, August 12, 1902. Willie spent his early year in Alfreck, Ballycarry where he honed his incredible wit and memory for detail. A week prior to leaving for Canada Dad had the thrill of touring the Titanic then under construction. On April 27, 1910 the McCreadys sailed aboard the HMS Corsica to a prairie homestead at Rabbit Lake, Sask. Bill soon grew to love his prairie life and entered whole heartedly into all aspects. Dad became a farmer, journeyman carpenter, councillor, reeve and village mayor throughout his career. He was well known for his book a day, his driving at 97 and for his sound advice. Bills wife Eleanor of 57 years died in 1989 as well as his sister Bessie Hagburg of Meadows in 1990 and son-in-law Don Romans in 1999. Left to mourn are Sheila Bates his only child with whom he maintained a close dad/daughter bond despite the years and distance. Sheilas son Jamie Bates lit up Grandpas life in 1975 and they forged a life long love. Although at 98 Dad was failing he retained his dignity and wit while we cherished our last warm days together still dishing out sound advice. Dad is also survived by sister Edith Mills (Edmonton) brother Douglas McCready (Tucson, Ariz.) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service took place at Sharon United Church, Maymont,Sask., on Tuesday, October 17, at 2:00 p.m. Any friends who so desire, may donate to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or to a charity of choice.
