VERA FRANCES STEPHENSEN (nee BENTON) With deep sadness mixed with relief, we announce the peaceful death of Vera Frances Stephensen at the Charleswood Care Centre on October 20, 2000 at the age of 88 years. She is the beloved Mother of Michael (Karen) of Calgary, Claire (Colin) of Marquette, MB and Leigh (Nancy) of Winnipeg and grandmother to Jeffrey, Jacqueline, Christopher, Matthew, Elizabeth and Joshua and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1988. Vera was born in London, England on June 6, 1912. She met and married Dad during the war and came to Canada in 1947. Her family and her dogs were the focus of her life and she supported us with love and generosity always. Her kitchen was a warm magnet for everyone. The family are very grateful to the staff at Victoria Hospital, Stonewall Hospital and Home Care, they all helped her to remain independent as long as possible. She was only at the Charleswood Care Centre for 2 months but was warmly and lovingly assisted by the staff here. A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. She was our Rock and it is difficult to imagine life without her unique presence. If friends so desire, donations in Veras memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Wpg.
