RICHARD NOWAK Richard Nowak passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2000 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Born September 11, 1923 in Winnipeg, Richard grew up in Dugald, eventually making his home there. In later years he resided at Transcona Place. Richard is survived by his sisters, Eleanor (Alfred) Antosz, Joyce (Lawrence) Metelski; step-sisters, Helen (Don) Hintz, Mary Swereda, Frances (Bob) Bisko and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 1940; his mother in 1997; his sisters, Lucy and Gertrude; his brothers, Arthur and Bernard; his step-brother Edward and his half-brother William. Richard worked for many years in the bush and papermill camps in Ontario, saving for his quarter section of land. While he farmed, he also worked at the CNR as a pipefitter. In his later years he travelled to Australia, South America, Poland and parts of the United States. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with the Rev. Peter Williams officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alfred Antosz, Manny Bairos, Don Hintz, Al Lindsay, Ron Nowicki and Bob Regula. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
