When asked several years ago if she had seen Halleys Comet, she responded, "which time?" having been gripped with fear when it first passed near earth in 1910. Eveline began her career as a school teacher, then operated a kindergarten from her home for many years. In 1958 she enrolled at the University of Manitoba to upgrade her teaching credentials and then taught kindergarten at Ralph Brown School for twelve years. After Daves death she learned to drive, and purchased her first car, a new Chevrolet Vega, at the age of 72 years. At this time, she also renewed her English family connections, visiting her cousins, the Risbeys and the Freestons, a total of three times in the 70s and 80s. She was a member of the West Kildonan School Board (later the Seven Oaks School Division) from 1952 until 1966, serving as Chair in 1956 and 1957. In this capacity, she was instrumental in establishing the Community School program, based on a similar program in Flint, Michigan. Church played an important part in Evelines life. She was a lifetime member of St. Martin in the Fields Anglican Church, which had been built by her father Edmund, and her uncle Thomas Martin. As part of Church life she taught Sunday School, was leader of the 51st Guide Company and later Ranger Advisor for the Province of Manitoba. She was always a keen curler starting in 1925 at St. Johns Curling Club and curled well into her mid-90s.
