JOHN TOPANDY FERBER (JOHANN SCHMIDT) It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Topandy Ferber on Sunday October 22, 2000 at the Health Sciences Centre, at 77 years of age. John was born on November 7, 1922 in Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his wife, Hilda Schmidt who predeceased him on May 15, 2000. Left to mourn him are his children; Beate (Don) of B.C., Bernie (Adrienne) of Ont., John (Sonia) of Minneapolis, Agatha (Burk) of B.C., and Clara (Jose) of Winnipeg; 15 grandchildren; Kurtis, Helena, Derek, Evelyn, John, Michael, Lisa, Jason, Carmen, Kayla, Jonathan, David, Lydia, Matthew and Nicholas; his siblings Heinreich (Agatha), Elisabeth, William (Erna), Rudolph (Martha), Maria (Richard), Lydia (Adolf), Josef (Elsie), Emil (Dora), Franz (Dorothea), Helmut (Angelica), Tabea (Hans-Jurgen) and many nephews and nieces. John was a P.O.W. in Russia for 4 years. After coming to Canada, John was an excellent carpenter and a hobby bee keeper. He had a wealth of knowledge to share and was very interested in literature and poetry. He really enjoyed having company and collecting jokes. John had a very active retired life and often attended seniors dances, bingo and bible study at Elim Chapel. John was very independent, but as he slowed down due to health reasons he needed more and more help in getting around. He really appreciated all the help he got. Special thanks also to all staff at Health Action Centre and to nurse Pat, Dr. Sokol, Chaplain De Gagne (Emergency staff HSC). He was a deeply emotional man and relationships were difficult for him at times. He loved many people and was loved by many."The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Ps. 34:18) His family would really like to thank all the people who took the time to help him out. He will be sadly missed by many. Funeral services will be held at Elim Chapel, 546 Portage, on Friday October 27 at 10:00 a.m. Thomson Funeral Chapels in care of arrangements. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
