JESSIE BAIZLEY On October 23, 2000, Jessie Baizley passed away peacefully at the Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. She was born January 21, 1915 on a farm near Dunrea, Man., the first of six children of Mary and Murdo MacDonald. She is survived by her children Don (Lesley) Baizley, Brian Baizley and Brenda Sokoluik; grandchildren, Gord Baizley, Marnie Baizley, Jeff Bailey, Amy Baizley, Michael (Shelagh Marie) Sokoluik and Brent Sokoluik; great-grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer and Rebeccah Sokoluik; sisters Marj (Al) Hamilton and Jean Sargent; sister-in-law Elsie MacDonald, brother-in-law Wes (Miriam) Baizley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Obie in May of this year, brothers Neil and Donald MacDonald, sister Mary MacDonald and sister-in-law Marj MacDonald. Jessie spent the first 12 years of her life on the farm near Dunrea where she attended a one-room school in Bellafield, which had a total student body of 11. In 1927 the family moved to a farm near Stonewall, Manitoba. She completed her high school education at Stonewall Collegiate where she was honoured with the Governor Generals Medal on graduation, an honour which she treasured privately throughout her life. Jessie met Obie in 1937 and they were married April 29, 1939. >From that date forward she dedicated her life to her family. Their needs seemed to always take priority over her own. Her greatest joy came from watching her family and extended family mature into adults, who would also contribute to the joy of those around them. Jessie and Obie raised their family in the Riverview area of Winnipeg from 1946 to 1972. She was a tireless volunteer in the community devoting much time and energy to the Riverview United Church, the Riverview Community Club and the Riverview and Churchill Home and School Associations. She did all of this while also actively supporting Obie in his community activities through such organizations as the Kinettes, the Chiropractic Auxillary as well as the sundry duties that fall within the realm of a politicians wife. The church was always a big part of Jessies life. Her deep faith assisted greatly in enabling her to handle lifes problems, particularly the health problems she was forced to face in the last 20 years of her life. Special thanks and appreciation must go to the very caring and compassionate staff at the Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service celebrating Jessies life at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, entrance on Aubrey Street in Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined. However, donations, may be made to the Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home, 577 St. Annes Rd., Winnipeg, Man., R2M 5B2, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 4G2 or to a charity of choice.
