IRIS GILMOUR (GREENFIELD) Named after the spring blooms outside the room where she was born, Iris Gilmours life reflected the brilliance, depth and creativity of those flowers. Iris was born in 1921 in Royden, Essex, England and grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She moved with her family to Winnipeg in 1938 and attended Kelvin High School. She studied at the University of Manitoba and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. Iris and George married in 1945, lived in Montreal for two years, returned to Winnipeg and made their home in Wildewood Park. Iris was an active volunteer at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in the Art to the Schools program and Art Rental department. The WAG art study group provided one outlet for her lifelong passion for art. As a member of the 10-15 Investment Club and a bridge club, Iris thoroughly enjoyed combining the challenging activities with socializing. Tennis was another passion for Iris and she was a regular player for many years at the Wildewood, Winnipeg Lawn Tennis, Victoria Beach and Taylor Tennis clubs. Iris is survived by her husband George; her children Gary, Sandy and Kimberley; Garys family in Winkler: his wife Penny and children Lisa, Daniel and Claire, and Kimberleys husband Jeffrey in Victoria. She is also survived by her sisters June Sadler in Edmonton, Joyce Richens in England, Donaleen Smith in Winnipeg and brother Bill Greenfield in Toronto. Iris loved her family in a way that was supportive and encouraging. She loved her friends; all of you at Victoria Beach and in Winnipeg who would play tennis, appreciate art, share stories and debate politics. Most of all, she loved life with exuberance, tenacity and humour that will never be forgotten. Thanks to Dr. Brandes and the caring staff at Cancer Care Manitoba. Thanks also to the many family and friends who were there through good and difficult times. Iris died peacefully on October 23rd at Health Sciences Centre. A service of remembrance will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway on Friday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Art to the School Program, Winnipeg Art Gallery.
