Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA (BERDIE) BILLINGHAM Peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Bertha (Berdie) Billingham, aged 87 years of Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall and formerly of Argyle and West St. Paul. Born March 13, 1913 at Glenella, Man. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred in 1987; her parents, Emmanuel and Lydia Addis in 1967; her brother Tom Addis in 1986; and her sister Anne Cooper in 1995. Surviving to mourn her loss two sons, Alfred (Judy) of Argyle, Hugh (Terry) of Argyle; six grandchildren, Shari, Shawna, Janie, Ann, Ryan and Ian; sister-in-law Ardis Addis of Winnipeg; numerous nieces and nephews. Before marrying Alf, Berdie worked for many years in her parents market garden business known as "Addis Greenhouses & Gardens", spending many long days with her mother standing in the market area of Main Street, Winnipeg, selling vegetables to many regular customers. During the winter, her great appreciation for flowers was a benefit as she worked many years for the Rosery Florist business in Winnipeg. Once married and while raising their young boys, Berdie helped Alf with their farm in West St. Paul. During this time, she decided to become involved in the education system and was a School Trustee with Seven Oaks School Division #10 from 1959-1963. Once the children were in high school, Berdie returned to work at the Rosery Florist until she retired. In 1973 Berdie and Alfs love of farming and the country life brought them to Argyle as they approached retirement. After Alfs death in 1987, Berdie continued to live on the farm almost ten more years. After a short stay at Oak Park Lodge in Woodlands, she moved into Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall in January, 1997, where she was well cared for. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Rev. Colin Chapman will officiate. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
