ALLAN WILSON JARVIS July 7, 1939 - October 18, 2000 Peacefully with his loving family by his side, Al Jarvis, late of Portage la Prairie passed away at the age of 61 years. Allan is predeceased by his father Bert and recently his brother Bob on October 21, 2000. Al is survived by his mother, Aldonna of Carlyle, Sask.; three daughters; Krista of Portage; Tanya of Portage and Susan of Halifax, N.S.; one very special grandson Darius of Portage; four brothers Gordon (Christie) of Carlyle, Sask., Don (Jane) of Calgary, Darryl (Helen) of Saltcoats, Sask., and Lorne of Mankota, Sask.; a sister-in-law Joanne of Regina; many nieces and nephews; and three very special friends Red Hughes, Ernie Taylor and Marvin Monk. They all showed great concern for Al. The family thanks you very much. Al was born in Lloydminster, Sask. on July 7, 1939. He was raised and received his education in Carlyle, Sask. Al was struck with polio at a very young age, but that was not enough to stop Al from going after his dream in broadcasting. He began his career in broadcasting in Weyburn, Sask. He then moved to Portage la Prairie to further his broadcasting career at CFRY. For the 22 years Al spent at CFRY he met a lot of very special friends that he had never forgotten. He was the M.C. at numerous fiddle contests where he quickly acquired many fans. Most people would remember Al from the Polka Parties on CFRY. Als favourite past-time was assembling model aircrafts. In his earlier years he was a member of the Portage la Prairie Flying Club. Al enjoyed cooking and he had many special dishes he loved to prepare for his girls. Al will be missed by many, many people. He was known as the Polka King and he will never be forgotten. A service to celebrate Als life will be held Saturday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Rd. South, Portage la Prairie Rev. Julie Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie, MB. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Als memory to the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 1106, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3C5. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Al at Evergreen Memorial Gardens by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements.
