HELEN BRAY Peacefully after a lengthy illness, on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, our dear mother Helen Bray passed away at the age of 78 years. Helen was born in Scott, Saskatchewan in 1922 and spent her childhood and school years there. After graduation, Helen attended business college in Saskatoon and worked there for several years in insurance and banking offices. Seeking adventure, Helen moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba, in 1951. She worked in the personnel department of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company, where she caught the eye of one of the young staff engineers and in 1953, she married our dad, Bob (J.R.) Bray. She retired from the business world in 1956 to raise her family. Bob and Helen and their family enjoyed summers at their cabin at Beaver Lake during those years, and many camping trips throughout Canada and the United States. In 1976, with the children grown and leaving home for school, Bob and Helen left Canada to live in Swakopmund, Namibia where Bob was a project manager for two years. Bob and Helen spoke fondly of their time overseas, where they lived by the ocean and enjoyed many travels throughout southern Africa and around the world. In 1978, Bob and Helen returned to Winnipeg. Eighteen wonderful retirement winters were spent with friends and family at the Magic Valley Trailer Park in the Rio Grande Valley of Southern Texas, until Bobs passing in 1995. In recent years, Helen has enjoyed trips to Europe, Mexico, Alaska and the Caribbean with her children and ocean cruises with friends. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She also continued to be active in the 700 Setter Street Seniors Club, until she began her final battle with cancer eight months ago. Helen was a wonderful wife and mother and leaves many fond memories with those who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth, of Saskatoon; sister Marion of Calgary, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Chris McCallum of Saskatoon, Harold Roosdahl of St. Walberg, Ken and Melba Bartlett of Oakville and Dorothy Stewart of Ottawa. Helen was predeceased by her beloved Bob in 1995. She leaves many loving memories with her children, Cameron of Winnipeg; daughter Janice Odegaard of Calgary, and Janices husband Rick Odegaard. Helen is also survived by her sister Ruth Roosdahl of St. Walberg, Saskatchewan, and by brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Hamilton of Calgary, Erica McCallum of Saskatoon, Blanche and Tony Hamelin of Oakville, Allan and Florence Bray also of Oakville and Tom and Jocelyn Stewart of Ottawa. Her many nieces and nephews will also cherish her memory. Helens family would like to extend special thanks to the caring people at the Grace General Hospital and also to Marjorie Picard for her friendship and support. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 28 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make a donation in memory of Helen to the Grace General Memorial Fund, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3J 3M7. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME 885-9715.
