BOHDAN (BUD) CHUDY October 27, 1917 - October 25, 2000 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Bud passed away on October 25, 2000, two days shy of his eighty third birthday. Bud will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kay of 54 years; his children, Buddy (Marlene) Chudy, Kathleen (Lyall) McDonnell, David (Claudette) Chudy and daughter-in-law Judy Cheguis. Grandpa (Gigi) will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Launey (Dan), Kristy, Robert, Chase, Brittany, Bernadine and Scott. Bud is survived by his sister Ella Anderson; his brothers, Walter (Helen) Chudy and Joe (Anne) Chudy. Bud was predeceased by his son Ronald Chudy; his granddaughter April McDonnell and his brothers, John and Stanley Chudy. Born October 27, 1917 at the homestead near Fisher Branch. Bud was the third son of a Blacksmith/Farming family. Buds education ceased at Grade 7 when survival became a priority during the difficult times of the thirties. At age 14, cutting cordwood and novice trapping were his only means of sustenance. At age 21 Bud relocated to Lake Nipigon, Ont., where cordwood was abundant. He returned to the homestead the following spring where he continued farming in the summer and trapping in the winter. On June 1, 1946 Bud married his little sweetheart (Katie Kolbuck). During the early years of their marriage, Bud was employed at the local creamery and the Castleman Mink Ranch. In March 1950 misfortune struck the Chudy family when Bud and his brother Joe were presumed lost during a trapping expedition to Grand Rapids. To everyones relief, Bud and Joe walked to civilization seven weeks later. Bud then continued to work on the Mink Ranch until he became the soul owner. Bud retired from Mink Ranching in 1980 but continued in the fur industry as a fur buyer and expanded his horizons into the Seneca Root Market. Buds retirement years finally gave him idle time to enjoy hunting, fishing and most of all, his grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roman Catholic Church, Fisher Branch, Man., Rev. Wesley Barrett will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Bud may be made to the Fisher Personal Care Home or a charity of their choice. Fisher Funeral Home in care of arrangements. 204-372-6271
