DORMA ROBERTSON It is with sorrow that Dorma Amy Robertson (Rose) peacefully passed away on October 26, 2000 at Oakview Place at the age of 92. Dorma was predeceased by her father Harry E. Rose in 1950 and her mother Amy Rose (Smith) in 1968 and her husband Jimmy C. Robertson in 1997. They wed in 1943. Dorma was born on July 8, 1908 in Winnipeg and grew up in the St. Vital area with her brother, Wilfred Rose, who passed away on November 3, 1999. They attended Glenwood School. Her father was the Police and Fire Chief of St. Vital from 1914 - 1926. She shared her cherished memories of living above the fire halls top two floors and riding along with the horses during their exercise run. Her parents immigrated from England as well as her maternal Grandfather, who was Col. J. Obed Smith (Jack), who organized The Liberal Party in Manitoba until 1901. He became Immigration Commissioner for the west and seven years later went the Great Britain and served as Superintendent of Immigration in Europe for Canada until 1924. Dorma leaves to mourn sister-in-law Maude Rose, of Victoria, B.C. and Edith Terris of Glasgow, Scotland, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorma was an outgoing person and an avid participant in numerous organizations. She was active for many years as Secretary for the Rosedale United Church, worked with the Red Cross, and like her mother, she became an active member of the Eastern Star. She joined at the age 18 in the #14 Chapter which was affiliated with the Queen Winnipeg #1 Chapter. She received her 71st Year Certificate in 1997. She resided in Winnipeg her entire life and retired from Cargill Grain. Throughout their married life, Dorma and Jimmy travelled from Coast to Coast as well as visited Florida many times and made several trips to Scotland to visit Edith and her family. The family extends sincere thanks to the 3rd Floor Nursing Staff at Oakview Place for their compassion and kindness in making Dormas last days as peaceful as possible. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of your choice. Memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, entrance on Aubrey Street, on Monday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. A private family interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery afterwards.
