WILLIAM JAMES WHARF Peacefully, on Friday, October 27, 2000, after a brief illness, with his family by his side, Bill, husband of Olive, passed on to Eternal Rest at the age of 73 years. Besides his wife of 47 years Olive (Madder) he leaves to mourn his sons, Richard (Patti), David (Terry) and Don; daughters, Janice Rutherford (Rick) and Pam Kissack; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Bill is also survived by his brother Grant of Fisher Branch; his stepmother Amy Wharf of Vancouver and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John James Wharf and Elizabeth Daniels Sherlaw; son Frederick and daughter Dawna-Jo. Bill was born July 29, 1927 in Fisherton, Man. He grew up on the farm and received most of his education in Fisherton and Winnipeg. He was employed for 22 years by the City of Winnipeg, retiring in 1989 as Superintendent of Facilities in Fort Garry. He enjoyed spending time with family, carpentry, woodworking, travelling, mall walking, coffee with his buddies and time at the cottage. Bill had a warm sense of humour and a caring nature, which touched the lives of many. A celebration of Bills life will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at 10:00 a.m., in the Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Avenue at Belvidere Street, with Rev. Dr. Peter Denton officiating. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge United Church, The Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3A 1P6 or a charity of your choice.
