ALFRED DAVID REID (AL) C.D. (MAJOR RET.) Wednesday, August 30, 1939 - Sunday, October 29, 2000 After a courageous battle with cancer, Al Reid peacefully passed away at Concordia General Hospital. Al will be lovingly remembered by many friends and family for his sharp wit, caring heart and sense of humour. Surviving besides his wife of 40 years Fay, are his daughter Sheri Armour and grandsons, Craig and Bryce Armour; his son Brad Reid, wife Lisa and granddaughter Kassidy; and his daughter Jill Reid and husband Brian Hodgert; his sister-in-law Sharon Mihalyk (Ray) brother-in-law Reg Wyatt (Donna) brother-in-law Keith (Linda) sister-in-law Candace and many nieces and nephews. Al worked for the City of Winnipeg for 35 years and retired in his role as Zoning Administrator in 1993. He also served with the Camerons of Canada and spent some years with the Winnipeg Service Battalion. He was a 29 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Transcona Branch #7 and served as a President and Past President of the Branch. He was also a member of the Transcona Pipe and Drum Association and the Transcona Historical Museum. Al was respected for his commitment to serving his community, his friends, and his family. During his retirement years, Al enjoyed spending time at the lake and spending time with his grandsons (the boys) Craig and Bryce and his granddaughter Kassidy (his "Molly"). Al was an avid handyman and was sought after for his help and expertise on many occasions. Over the years, Al has cared for his elderly mother and aunts and uncles. Al had a passion for art and enjoyed painting, drawing and most recently soap stone carving. Al lived his life with passion, laughter and integrity. He lived it on his own terms and he will forever remain in our hearts. Honorary pallbearers are his brothers-in-law, Ray Mihalyk, Reg Wyatt and his comrades at the Royal Canadian Legion and all of his dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, #7-117 Regent Ave., East Transcona, MB R2C 0C2 on Tuesday, October 31 at 1:30 p.m. Donations in Memory of Al may be made to the Royal Canadian Sports Camp Federation at the Manitoba Peace Gardens, C/O the above address - Branch #7.
