MARGERY ELIZABETH CLAYTON (REDPATH) It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Margery Elizabeth Clayton on October 26, 2000, at the Pembina Manitou Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Marge was the first born of Fred and Irene Redpath of Mather. She was born at Crystal City on January 6, 1935. Marge received her schooling at Rock Lake, Mather and Winnipeg. After graduating, she taught at the McFadden school north of Manitou for two years, during which time she boarded with Fred and Isabelle Zilkey. Mom was blessed with a lifelong passion for animals and music. Completing the outside chores on the Redpath homestead with her dad, pleased mom. She would after ride her horse for hours in the pastures surrounding Rock Lake. Mom began taking piano lessons in Cartwright and was soon spending many nights chording to her dads fiddle tunes when the days work was done. Before long, mom purchased a Gene Autrey guitar which she taught herself to play. Mom met Stew Clayton in the fall of 1952 when they were introduced by Irene Henderson at a fiddling contest in Manitou. Within minutes of their introduction, they were playing together on stage in the breaks while the judges were picking the different class winners. On May 22, 1954, mom married Stew and joined him on the Clayton homestead near Kaleida with his parents. Five children were born the Claytons, Wilf, Randy, Greg, Loriann and Juanita. Although it required hard work, mom enjoyed farm life, especially her animals. When they moved to town in the fall of 1996, it wasnt long before mom acquainted herself with horses north of town belonging to John Maloney and Garry Kestirke. Mom was renowned for her huge gardens which fed many friends, family and visiting musicians over the years. Marges smile and musical gifts will be deeply missed by Stew, her husband and singing partner of 46 years; by her five Children, Wilf (Janice), Randy (Jodi), Greg (Vanda), Loriann (Ed), Juanita (Roxanne) and by her nine grandchildren, Danielle, Jesse, Lindsey, Dana, Marlana, Brooke, Corbinn, Brandi and Maranda. She will also be sadly missed by her brothers, Joe Redpath (Judy), Vern Redpath (Jane), Larry Redpath (Arlene) her sister-in-law Gertie Pinder; her brother-in-law Reg Clayton (Doreen), and her mother Irene Redpath and aunts, Marge Alcock and Hazel Campbell. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and life long friends. Marge was predeceased by a brother Frank in infancy and her father Fred in 1982.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember back when I was a kid we had this 8 track player in our sitting room. I remember how this one 8 track just wouldn't die. It just kept on playing and playing, songs like, when it's lamp lighting time in the valley and granny's left to you that old darn chair etc. I think I still have that 8 track kickin' around somewhere? Thank-you Stew and Marge for that good, good music. - Posted by: Kelcey German (son of fan) on: May 01, 2013
