EDWIN DAVID ANDERSON May 5, 1919 - October 29, 2000 Peacefully, on October 29, 2000 after a brief illness and with his family at his side, Edwin Anderson passed away at the age of 81 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn of 52 years; sons, Rusty (Gladys) of Portage la Prairie, MB, David (Linda) of Regina, SK, Allan (Janice) of East Selkirk, MB, and daughter Donna (Rick) Ritchie of East Selkirk. He also leaves one brother Victor Anderson of Calgary, AB. He will be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Luci (John) Carter, and Cameron Wright of Toronto, ON, Nancy (Dan), Victoria, and Elizabeth Smith of Petawawa, ON, Jackiy (Steve), Carly, and Natalie Van Mil of East Selkirk, Traci Anderson of Selkirk, MB, and Amber Ritchie of East Selkirk. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Albert Anderson; brothers, Walter, Gus, Charlie, George, and Jim; sisters, Alma, Nellie, Mabel, Jane, and Florence; and grandson Devin Anderson. Ed was born in Walkleyburg, MB on May 5, 1919 on the family farm. He served as Signalman for the Canadian Grenadiers during the Second World War. Upon his return and for most of his life, he lived and farmed in the East Selkirk area. During his lengthy farming career he also worked at a few different local businesses. Of these he was best known as Uncle Ed from Arts B/A Station in Selkirk. His recent years were spent in retirement, reading western novels, road trips to anywhere just to see the sights, enjoying his hummingbirds, and visits with family and friends. Mom and Dad opened their home to a dozen foster children over the years, and some still keep in touch. The three Pajonk boys who stayed with them the longest, still call him Dad and Grandpa. On May 8, 1998 he and his wife Evelyn celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with many family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Lindenschmidt and Dr. Demsas of Selkirk General Hospital, and especially the wonderful and caring nursing staff who treated him so well during his last few weeks. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB with Rev. John Hogerwaard presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made if desired to the Palliative Care Unit at Selkirk General Hospital in Selkirk, or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
