DOROTHY BERNICE GREEN (nee SUTTON) Dorothy passed away quietly on October 30, 2000 with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dorothy leaves to mourn her son David (Linda) grandchildren, Michael, Bryan, and Stacie, and great-granddaughter Kari; as well as her 103 year old mother Mary Sutton; sisters, Elinor (Wally) Smithson and Myrene Hodgson; sister-in-law Jeanne Sutton, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon; father Newton Sutton; brother Ralph Sutton and sister Joyce Sandulak. She was born May 2, 1922 in Carman Hospital and received her education in Roland. Dorothy chose hairdressing as an early profession, prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a WD with the Motor Transport Division (1942-1946). She married Gordon Green on September 3, 1948. Dorothy joined the Prince Edward Legion No. 81 in 1946 and continued her membership to the present day. Her 21 years as secretary included the years 1961 - 1973 and 1983 - 1992. Many of these years were spent working with her husband Gordon, while he was president. She was very honoured to have been presented the meritorious service award, and a chair of honour upon her retirement. Dorothy maintained a good sense of humour and had a loyal, giving heart. Music was one of her passions and she enjoyed a good old harmony singsong. Her grandchildren were especially important as she strove to provide guidance and support to them. Her family would like to thank Doctor L. Stadnyk and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Riverview Health Centre. A special thank-you as well, to her friends, Barb, Beth and Terri for their faithful support. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held Thursday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway, with reception to follow at the Prince Edward Legion No. 81, 300 Trent Avenue, East Kildonan. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
